The aim of this seminar series is to bring together a professionals working in the HIV field in Scotland to open up dialogue and agree on priorities for future policy and practice development around emerging themes in HIV.
A select number of experts from a range of disciplines working in the HIV field in Scotland were invited to attend the first in the series of HIV Scotland’s expert seminars, entitled Treatment as Prevention. Taking place in Edinburgh on 5th of October 2011, we were joined by keynote speaker Professor Graham Hart, Dean of Faculty of Population Health Sciences, UCL, London, along with an expert contributors, Professor David Goldberg, Health Protection Scotland and Dr Daniel Clutterbuck, Consultant in Genito-Urinary Medicine, NHS Lothian and NHS Borders.

This seminar looked at improving the role of primary care in the prevention and detection of HIV. Keynote speakers: Dr Philippa Matthews, GP, Islington Primary Care Trust and Dr Ewen Stewart, GP, Rose Garden Medical Centre, presented at the seminar in Glasgow on the 3rd of February 2012. Indepth discussion and debate focused on the role of general practice in HIV prevention, testing and treatment. Examples of good practice which involve the integration of primary care services were shared, for example the SHIP (Sexual Health in Practice) model and other ways of enhancing the engagement of GPs in this area. A report will be available shortly.
