Last month we published our report HIV and Education: Guaranteeing Lessons for All which reported on research in to HIV education and relationships, sexual health and parenthood lessons. We’ve been engaging with Schools and Local Authorities to push forward our recommendations to ensure that every young person has access to the right information and knowledge about HIV in the 21st Century.

As part of this engagement, we are working with Fife Council who have set up a working group to look at the content of their RSHP lessons. We were also pleased to hear from the Deputy First Minister, and Cabinet Secretary of Education, John Swinney MSP who responded to our report. In his response, he has invited HIV Scotland to engage with the LGBTI Inclusive Education Working Group as well as play a role in the national review of personal and social education which the Government announced recently.

Going forward, we’ll be launching the second tranche of this research, whilst working with Local Authorities across Scotland to ensure parity of knowledge on HIV, so that young people can prevent new infections.
