Useful websites on HIV

The following sites provide useful information, data, research, and policy on HIV/Aids both globally and in the UK. Further links are available from our Policy Library, a virtual library of HIV and related policy information for Scotland and the UK.

Aidsmap
A partnership project of 'NAM', the HIV information charity, British HIV Association and St Stephen’s AIDS Trust, the excellent Aidsmap is a website offering comprehensive information on all aspects of HIV/AIDS from medical, legal and health advice to the latest news.

Aids Education Global Information System (AEGIS)
A vast and comprehensive resource, reputedly the world's biggest HIV/Aids website, including a daily briefing that draws together news reports from all over the world on all aspects of HIV/Aids, from research to drugs to law and government policy.

AVERT
AVERT is a leading UK AIDS Education and Medical Research charity and is responsible for a wide range of education and medical research work. The aims of the organisation are: "preventing people from becoming infected with HIV, improving the quality of life of those already infected, through medical research working to develop a cure for AIDS." The AVERT site contains: HIV and AIDS statistics, information for young people, personal stories, a history section, information on becoming infected, a young and gay section, free resources, FAQs, and a range of other data.

BRITISH HIV ASSOCIATION (BHIVA)

BHIVA is the leading UK professional association representing professionals in HIV care. Now 15 years old, it is a well-established and highly respected organisation with national influence committed to providing excellence in the care of those living with and affected by HIV. 

GAY MEN's HEALTH Ltd
Counselling service in Edinburgh for all gay and bisexual men, and a new service in Glasgow for gay and bisexual men living with HIV and their partners.

GET RUBBER
Get Rubbered! is run by Terrence Higgins Trust Scotland. It's a scheme which provides free condoms and lube by post to men who have sex with men who live in remote and rural areas.  It's funded by NHS Lanarkshire, NHS Ayrshire and Arran and NHS Grampian. Terrence Higgins Trust Scotland (formerly PHACE Scotland) has run the Get Rubbered! scheme for several years from our Glasgow office.

HEALTH PROTECTION SCOTLAND
Communicable disease monitoring body for Scotland. The site has an HIV/Aids report section, that contains comprehensive data on prevalence HIV/Aids.

MEDFASH
The Medical Foundation for AIDS & Sexual Health is a charity which works with policy-makers and health professionals to promote excellence in the prevention and management of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. Supported by the British Medical Association, the site is aimed at professionals, and has extensive policy and research links.

NAM
NAM is a community-based information provider based in the UK whose sole aim is to combat the AIDS epidemic through accurate, accessible and up-to-date information.
NAM's publications have become one of the principal sources of AIDS and HIV information in the UK and Europe over the past ten years. NAM produces extensive information on treatments, both in book form and as a searchable database. They also have a range of publications on organisations as well as an online international resources database, searchable in six languages. There is also a searchable database of HIV clinics in the UK. NAM produces the excellent Aidsmap site.

National Aids Trust
NAT is the UK's leading HIV / AIDS policy and advocacy organisation working to ensure that people in power take action on HIV both within the UK and internationally.

International HIV/AIDS Alliance
A unique development organisation specialised in supporting communities in developing countries to tackle the spread and impact of HIV/AIDS.

The Health Development Agency
The national authority that works to improve people's health and reduce health inequalities. They gather evidence and produce advice for policy makers, professionals and practitioners.

Health Protection Scotland
Health Protection Scotland (HPS) was established by the Scottish Executive to strengthen and co-ordinate health protection in Scotland. HPS came into existence on 11 November 2004.

Health Protection Scotland took over the functions of the Scottish Centre for Infection and Environmental Health (SCIEH). HIV Reports are available here -  http://www.hps.scot.nhs.uk/bbvsti/index.aspx 

Sexual Health Scotland
A website for you -

Wales Public Health Laboratory Service
As above but for Wales.

Terrence Higgins Trust
The UK's largest Aids charity. Its site offers information, fact sheets and details of the services it provides, as well as an online 'shopping village' where a percentage of goods bought over the net from high street retailers goes to the charity.

UN Aids
United Nations body set up to coordinate HIV/Aids prevention and treatment programmes across the world. The site includes detailed, country-by-country estimates of the spread of the epidemic.

World Aids Day
Official website of the campaign. Includes a back to basics guide to HIV/Aids, how you can become infected and how it can be treated.
