HIV Scotland Events

Confidentiality and risks to third parties.

The fact that a person is HIV-positive would normally be regarded as strictly confidential, but difficult questions may arise if someone is thought to be putting a sexual partner at risk by having unprotected sex without disclosure. In exceptional cases, a breach of confidentiality may be legally and ethically permissible (or, arguably, even necessary).

Waverley Care invite you to join them for a talk and discussion on this important issue which will be led by James Chalmers, senior lecturer in law at Edinburgh University

The Venue is Waverley Care Solas on Thursday 20 th September from 6 – 7:30 pm. Refreshments will be available.

Connected Scotland Launch.

Connected Scotland was launched on the 6th July 2007. Healthy Gay Scotland, along with a multi- agency working group has developed resources to support gay and bisexual men who are living with HIV/AIDS.

The resource comprises a pack for gay and bi men newly diagnosed with HIV that can be given out at clinics. There is also an interactive website www.connectedscotland.co.uk providing information and support for all gay and bisexual men living with HIV , their partners, families and friends.

'Sisters Do It For Themselves' conference in Edinburgh June 2007.

Against the background of disproportionate worldwide levels of HIV amongst women, HIV Scotland's AMEHP Project organised this milestone event. This conference was the first of its kind to take place in Scotland with over 120 delegates attending to discuss the need for new HIV prevention options for women in Scotland and worldwide.

HIV Scotland and Healthy Gay Scotland took part in the hugely successful Changing the Focus conference.

It was Scotland's first national conference on Gay and Bisexual Men's Sexual Health and Wellbeing and took place in Edinburgh on 29th & 30th June 2006. Presentations from the conference are now available on the 'Changing The Focus Website'

Two new pilot schemes offering online sexual health information and support were launched by Healthy Gay Scotland on Thursday 24th March 2005.

Scotland will benefit from being the first country in the world to have a specific sexual health online chat room. Men will be able to ask questions, request information advice and chat about a range of HIV/sexual health issues and more. The Scottish Netreach Network (SNN) comprising Healthy Gay Scotland, Gay Men's Health, PHACE Scotland and LGBTYouth Scotland will offer support, advice and information to gay men using Gaydar – one of the world's most popular contact/dating websites. Presentations from HIV Scotland/Healthy Gay Scotland ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION

The purpose of this round table discussion, held on 2nd July 2003, was: to share information among experts in the HIV prevention field; to work together to come up with priorities and strategies for HIV prevention for gay men; to understand current areas of activity and levels of collaboration, and discuss possibilities for future co-operation over a short, medium and longer term.

International conference and event listings

The Symposium on HIV and Emerging Infectious Diseases is to be held in Toulon from 28 - 30 May 2008. To view the entire preliminary programme click on http://www.isheid.com/html/en/Symposium/prelim_programme.html

The XVII International AIDS Conference takes place in Mexico City on August 3-8, 2008 (AIDS2008). Abstracts will be accepted through to 19 February 2008.
An estimated 20,000 participants will attend.
