This pie chart shows the proportion of individuals infected with HIV by transmission category at two points in time: 1997 and 2010 and is a comparison, with the second chart showing data for 2010 only.
As can be seen from the charts, some exposure categories have completely disappeared from the 2010 data including mother to child, blood factor and blood tissue transfer. Infection from injecting drug use has also reduced substantially. The charts show, however, that new diagnoses due to sex between men, or sex between men and women, continue to be a concern.
