HIV diagnosis by exposure category at 5 year intervals (1985-2010)

This graph shows where people diagnosed with HIV in Scotland were 'exposed' to HIV, ie where they most likely contracted the virus.

In 2010, about 60% of newly diagnosed HIV infections were acquired outwith Scotland, many of them in Africa, but a significant number ‘elsewhere’ in the United Kingdom and in other parts of the world.
